Breaking the Cycle is 58 min. documentary film about how we can use prisons to rehabilitate rather than deprive and punish inmates.

It was produced by Finnish broadcasting company YLE and shot over a three-week preiod, both in Norway and the United States.

The documentary tells the story about Jan Strømnes, the deputy warden in the world’s most humane maximum-security prison, Halden Prison in Norway.

Jan sets out on a mission to change the outlook of rehabilitation in of the most notorious prisons in the world – The Attica Correctional Facility in New York State.
