The Fabric of the Cosmos

Physicist and author Brian Green takes on The Fabric of the Cosmos, a 4-hour long documentary series on space, time and our current understanding of the universe. Based on the same-titled book, Green’s travels leads us to the very edge of physics where science becomes strange and the unknown becomes king.

Underneath our world and universe lies an unseen world, a world of quantum fluctuations, superstrings and other dimensions. Using basic metaphors to describe complicated and intricate theories for our understanding of the cosmos, Green manages to simplify what is otherwise difficult to wrap one’s head around.

Multiverse hypothesis’ and superstring theories are showcased in elegant everyday metaphoric occurrences, and although giving us a superficial means to study the subjects, gets the points across.

Episode 1: What is Space?

Episode 1: What is Space

Episode 1 explores what space might be; a dynamic fabric with an almost endless amounts of dark matter, galaxies, stars and planets. Brian green unfolds the physics behind space and how it bends around light, dark, gravity and the matter it contains.

Episode 2: The Illusion of Time

Episode 2: The Illusion of Time

What is time? Episode 2 shows how time could very well be an illusion. Yet, how could our understanding of something that fuels our entire existence be so wrong?

As we dive deep into the dimensional gateways of time, Green shows us the entire reality of time shown from a different perspective. That time perhaps could be a lot more than just the indefinite continued progress of existence and events to come, occurring in an apparent irreversible succession, from the past through the present to the future.

Episode 3: Quantum Leap

Episode 3: Quantum Leap

Brian Green and other physicists theorize that quantum Physics play a crucial role in governing the entirety of the cosmos. Episode investigates just that, the world of quantum physics and the science behind it.

Quantum mechanics has had enormous success in explaining many of the features of our universe. Quantum mechanics is often the only theory that can reveal the individual behaviors of the subatomic particles that make up all forms of matter (electrons, protons, neutrons, photons, and others). Quantum mechanics has strongly influenced string theories, candidates for a Theory of Everything.

Episode 4: Universe or Multiverse?

Episode 4: Universe or Multiverse

Is our universe unique or is it part of an infinite amount of universes called the multiverse? Episode 4 explains some of the new hypothesis on what our universe is or could be. Join in as Brian Green delves into the brave new world of physics, where scientific guesses on alternative realities are formed from dreamlike

Hard as it is to swallow, cutting-edge theories are suggesting that our universe may not be the only universe. Instead, it may be just one of an infinite number of universes that make up the “multiverse.” In this show, Brian Greene takes us on a tour of this brave new theory at the frontier of physics, showing what some of these alternate realities might be like.
