Perhaps one of the most famous ship catastrophes of the 20th century, this documentary seeks to understand what happened inside the Titanic while it sank.
Specifically, Saving the Titanic takes a look at the Titanic’s engineers, stokers and firemen in the ship’s final hours.
Based on eyewitness accounts, nine men from the engineering crew fought courageously to hold back the power of the sea and keep the power systems running, even after they learned there was no hope left.
The engineering crew consisted of fireman and stokers, who shovelled coal into the ship’s 29 boilers that powered its two massive steam engines, and engineers who made sure the engines and other mechanical equipment functioned smoothly.
As the documentary progresses, the unveiling of the catastrophic events becomes evident.
Following these events through the eyes of the Titanic’s engineers, we get a full scope on the ship’s final terrible circumstances.
It is a poignant story of self-sacrifice and dignity in the face of death.
