Planet Egypt is a history and archaeological documentary series which recounts the epic history of Ancient Egypt and its Pharaohs, from the pre-dynastic period through to the late dynasties.
Each episode addresses one aspect of Egypt’s enormous success, including the unlikely rise of its first powerful rulers, the wars they fought, the spiritual grounding that held the society together and the grand quest for immortality pursued by the Pharaohs.
The series is fused together with historical re-enactment, archaeologists showcasing fascinating findings and historical anecdotes of the time period.
Episode 1: Birth of the Empire
Episode one takes a look at Ancient Egypt and how its flourishing civilization became a dominating empire in the world.
Furthermore, we’ll take a look at some of the archaeological findings from Dynasty zero, Egypt’s very beginning. A 5000-year-old tablet that tells a fascinating tale of warfare just before the founding of the empire.
Episode 2: Pharaohs at War
Episode two follows ancient Egypt in their strive for power and war. As the civilization grew and amassed more wealth, so too would Egypt’s enemies prod deeper into the country to seek the fabled riches.
In the second millennia BC, foreign tribes began to infiltrate northern Egypt. From here on, foreign kings would regularly threaten the Nile Kingdom.
Episode 3: Temples of Power
Egypt without gods is unimaginable. Episode three of Planet Egypt takes a look at how, over the course of centuries, the priests steadily gained in power.
This came to an end in the year 1350 BC, when King Akhenaten comes to the throne. Here the Pharaoh would break with the cult that has kept the country together for more than 1500 years.
Episode 4: Quest for Eternity
From the days of the first Pharaoh’s tombs to the end of their era, Egyptians were united by one burning desire: to extend their lives to all eternity.
To do this, they started the constructions of gigantic pyramids, splendid temples and the magnificent tombs that have become the hallmark of the ancient Egyptian civilization.
