<p>Sea cucumbers, sea stars, sand dollars, crinoids, and sea urchins belong to the phylum echinodermata, which comprises of over 7000 living species. Echinoderms are so named because of their calcium carbonate endoskeleton, which is composed of spiny projections known as ossicles. What is visible in the image above are the ossicles of the sea cucumber.</p>
