<p>The early &#8220;long-bodied&#8221; Moai like this one are all located slightly downhill from the mountain quarry where the moai were carved. The following 300 years of Moai production produced a lot of dirt and debris that was washed downhill by the rain, burying the statues.</p>
<p>The &#8220;long-bodied&#8221; Moai only make up a small part of the around 900 Moai on the Easter island. The majority are found away from the quarry, have shorter bodies and aren&#8217;t buried.</p>
