The Adventure of English

The Adventure Of English explores the history of the English language throughout eight different educational episodes.

Together with host and linguist Melvyn Bragg, we’ll explore the development of the English language of the last 1500 years.

The first four episodes explain how this insignificant German dialect gradually evolved into a global language now spoken and understood by more people than any other in the world.

The remaining four episodes visit various countries around the world to show the differences in modern English.

The series’ also show how these English speaking nations have adopted and gradually changed the language to fit their own culture.

And finally, Melvyn Bragg showcases how the English language have become the de-facto language for international establishments and business across the globe.
